I'm sure we all came across some abbreviations that we ended up not understanding or misusing. And let's admit it - abbreviations can be tricky, and even those we see frequently are at times misunderstood and used in the wrong context. So, to make things easier this thread will contain a list of abbreviations and what they mean. If you come across a abbreviation you don't understand browse through here to see if you can find it - if not, don't be shy and simply ask. I'm sure someone will be able to explain it.
To start off:
etc - Short for the Latin words "et cetera", which means "and so on" or "and so forth". Often misspelled "ect"
p.s. - This one is commonly seen in letters, whether handwritten or e-mail / personal messages. It's also Latin and stands for "post scriptum" and is used to indicate that something was added to the letter / message after its author had already finished the original message, like in an afterthought. Now often when people add multiple post scriptums they tend to add another "s" to the end, however, the correct way would be to add another "p" as in post post scriptum and so on.
e.g. - Latin for "exempli gratia", meaning "for example"
i.e. - Another Latin abbreviation... This one stands for "id est" which translates to "that is". It's commonly used when explaining what is meant with something.
